cleanercities.co.uk operates
on very low overheads and resource use is kept
to an absolute minimum in every aspect of our
business.
We
don't send any paper documents - unless
specifically requested or required to do so by
law. Our main energy
consumption is on electricity for lighting and
computers - supplied by 'juice' - a partnership
between Greenpeace
& npower - a more sustainable energy
option.

As many of our items are sourced from
developing countries, we have to arrange
transport of these items to the UK. We request
our products to be shipped by sea as opposed
to air transport and it's higher emissions of
C02 per tonne of freight. We import small
quantities of trinkets, keyrings pens and
notebooks - no more than half a tonne a year
(correct as of June 2007).

The profits generated from the sale of these
goods fund our environmental advice service -
a free web based resource that enables members
of community and voluntary groups to contact
an experienced and qualified environmental
scientist or ecologist for advice.
PACKAGING
cleanercities.co.uk
package all items in acid-free tissue paper in
a padded envelope to protect the goods in
transit. We are constantly reviewing packaging
options to minimise our environmental impact.
If you are aware of a more environmentally
friendly way we can package our goods
securely, please
contact us.
There is only so much we can do as individuals
and small businesses - creating a more
sustainable planet requires huge political
will.
It is up to us to force the change through our
democratic systems. It is all about making
simple common sense decisions in our everyday
activities that will help to reduce our
consumption of energy and resources. Why pay
huge energy bills to inefficient, polluting
companies who's main objective is to keep
their shareholders happy when we could after
an initial outlay, generate our own free
energy with clean technologies such as solar,
wind or hydropower. Meeting our own energy
needs is to liberate ourselves. Anyone lucky
enough to have a small garden or yard can grow
their own quality food - far superior than any
supermarket could offer. What more do we
really need?
Imagine a future - a bit like
the Good Life,
only with plasma screens and surround
sound...excellent.
