Our limited resources go surprisingly far - a small
office housing a PC and a laptop! (powered by juice,
originally a partnership between greenpeace and npower) and we
have supported community & voluntary groups, cottage
industries & other small business/exporters from all
over the world including UK, Nepal, India and
Guatemala.
As small business it is our aim to continue to
develop long term business partnerships with
suppliers all over the world. We try and locate
items that promote local cultures and traditions -
for example handicrafts and ritual items. We ask that all goods supplied are from
sources that promote good ethical working practices,
e.g. no child or forced labour, a fair wage relative
to local living costs, safe working conditions, etc.
We don't fly all over the
world to meet our suppliers. Our international
partnerships are maintained through the world wide
web - if we jumped
on a plane and flew across the world every time we
sourced a possible supplier, our carbon/ecological
footprint would deem us hypocrites. We always consider our
carbon/ecological footprint
in every aspect of our business.
If you are aware of products that contribute to creating a
better world, whether through ethical trading or environmental
sustainability please click on the link on the left hand menu
above, to
recommend a product.
You may be part of a craft group who produce hand made
products or maybe you travel to developing countries with your
work - if you would like cleanercities.co.uk to consider
stocking a product, please follow the link on the left or
We are also interested in hearing about products made in
the UK using local materials (non-perishables only)
Although we are a private enterprise - (legally we are owned by an
individual operating as a sole tradership as that takes the least
effort in terms of administration and bureaucracy) we do not operate for
individual profits and exist to support communities, organisations and
charities who share our environmental and ethical ethos, who wish to
make positive environmental improvements on a local or global scale.
Community and voluntary groups who wish
to make a positive impact in their local environments can contact a
qualified environmental scientist or ecologist for general web based
advice at no charge. Click
here for more details.
To maintain our credibility as an independent
and impartial environmental resource we DO NOT seek nor receive any
external funding or accept public donations. Our service is funded
from the profits generated from the sale of
our products. We also make donations to
environmental charities who share our ethos.
We
choose maintain our position as
private but very
social enterprise as we prefer to deal with people, not paperwork &
bureaucracy!
